What if you’re a player or part of a club?
You have several ways you can help young people learn to participate in the community.
The most basic is to reach out to interested kids. When children see your instrument and are curious, tell them about it. Let them try it if it can be done safely.
Clubs are often able to perform in public. This creates a chance for kids to hear live music made by real people, and get a taste for how fun that can be. Share your excitement and help people join the community.
Welcome all ages to your club. We all started out as beginners, and needed help and guidance. It’s easy for a beginner to get discouraged, but kind words from others can really give them heart.
If you have instruments sitting unused in your closet or under the bed, consider donating an instrument. You can give someone a start, and know that your gift will be appreciated every day!
Finally, if your club is feeling ambitious, you could run a music camp. A week-long session and followup with a supportive club can give kids a great love of music.
